| Chestnuts | ||
| Baking Soda | ¼ tsp | For dried chestnuts |
Method
- Cut a cross with a sharp knife on the flat side of each chestnut
- Place in a saucepan and cover with water
- Bring to a boial and remove from heat
- Take out a few chestnuts at a time
- Peel off outer and inner skins while hot
- Cover shelled chestnuts with water and simmer until tender
- Drain
For Dried Chestnuts
- Add baking sode to water and bring to a boil
- Cover dried chestnuts with baking soda water
- Soak overnight
- Boil chestnuts in the soaking water until tender
- Peel skins
Notes From Gran
- Chstnuts are very good in turkey stuffing
